ZipLogTM
A step change in downhole intervention logging for vertical to horizontal wells without using coiled tubing or well “tractors”
Based on distributed fibre optic sensing technology, ZipLogTM is a revolutionary tool used to address reservoir management challenges faced in declining fields, complex well profiles and complex completion methodologies. ZipLog has been joint developed by Ziebel and Sensornet* and is used in following applications to understand and verify:
- Well integrity issues
- Inflow allocation
- Injection allocation
- Cross flow verification and monitoring
- Detect and monitor wellbore leakages
- Inflow/injection valves operation
- Gas lift optimisation
Close the Monitoring Gap
With conventional technology there is a gap between what you believe is occurring along your well and what is actually happening. ZipLogTM revolutionary technology overcomes the limitations of measurement technologies available today to close the Monitoring Gap.
The Monitoring Gap with Existing Technology
Conventional production logging technology requires the use of a number of instruments that need to be moved up and down the wellbore to log the different zones. These procedures can be time consuming, complex and lead to lost production. Potential issues include:
- Well “tractor” of coiled tubing required in high deviation well bores, which some applications are not able to get to depth
- Higher risk of becoming stuck in hole
- Typical rig-up time can be up to 12-24 hours
- Wireline/coiled tubing logging operations require 10-12 engineers on location
ZipLogTM Solution
ZipLog™ allows surveying to be performed in wells where access with wireline has not been possible, replace wireline plugs in horizontal wellheads and to enable limited rig-up interventions. The ZipLogTM surface deployment system and logging rod is of such a compact size that rig-up and deployment on well heads with limited head room above are made possible.
Advantages of ZipLogTM
- Disruptive, game changing technology
- Small footprint, low unit weight and substantially quicker to rig up and deploy, and less personnel required, than wire line or coiled tubing interventions
- Powerful logging system that does not need to be moved in the wellbore during flowing or injection
- Replaces the need for running well tractors or coiled tubing for logging high deviation wells
- Surface installation system can be used for capillary tube installations, gas well dewatering pumps, retrofit gas lift for well start-up, etc.
- Future applications include step-change technologies for sub sea intervention
