Digital Flow Profiling - Your Virtual PLT

Based on distributed fibre optic sensing technology, Sensornet's Digital Flow Profiling solution puts the Smart into Smart Wells. Based on distributed fibre optic sensing technology, Digital Flow Profiling is one of the tools in Sensornet’s Digital Production Monitoring Solutions. Digital Flow Profiling is used to enable location of fluid entry points across the reservoir interval and identification of the type of fluids (oil, gas, water).

Well configurations that benefit from Digital Flow Profiling include

  • Conventional & Complex
  • Multilateral
  • Intelligent oil or gas producer/injector
  • Long horizontal
  • Wells where there is infrequent or no PLT logging

Sensornet’s Digital Flow Profiling technology provides a permanently installed monitoring solution that monitors all points along the production string on a real-time basis. Therefore the production engineer and reservoir engineer can benefit from continuous real time PLT type data without any disruption to operations at temperatures up to 350°C. The benefits are increased production, better sweep efficiency, reduced operating costs, reduced deferred production and improved ultimate recovery.

Benefits to Reservoir Engineer

Digital Flow Profiling provides continuous, real-time PLT type information for production wells, thus providing the reservoir engineer with a greater understanding of what is occurring in the reservoir at all times. This information aids the engineer in optimising production for existing wells and improved planning for future wells.

In addition to production wells, Digital Flow Profiling is also used in injection wells and observations wells. Providing information on enhanced oil recovery options (such as water injection) this enables the reservoir engineer to optimise injection rates and aids in identifying in-fill well locations for maximum reservoir optimisation.

Benefits to Production Engineer

The continuous, real-time PLT type data from Digital Flow Profiling provides the production engineer with valuable information. More information leads to more informed decision making resulting in optimisation of daily operations and minimal downtime.

In addition to information across the reservoir interval, the production engineer also has access to information on the integrity of the entire completion (e.g. casing, valves, ESP’s). Thus in the event that any unplanned event occurs the production engineer will receive advance warning and will be able to react accordingly, thus lowering potential risks and improving safety.

Some of the solutions it provides are

  • Flow contribution from different zones
  • Continuous real-time production allocation
  • Injection contribution to different zones
  • Optimise intelligent well control valve settings
  • Tune artificial lift performance
  • Observe fluid movement behind casing
  • Detect cross flow during shut-in
  • Scale squeeze injection contribution to different zones
