Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs)

As subsea operations venture ever deeper, cables are increasing in length, the leads to ever increasing strains on the cables and increased risk leading to both cable failures and fatiques that result in severe reduction in the cable lifetime. Additionally, when ROV's operate in shallower waters excess cable left on the reel often overheats during the operation of ROVs.

Using Sensornet’s Distributed Temperature Sensor, a continuous thermal profile can be provided along the entire length of the power cable. The distributed temperature sensor can therefore locate potentially dangerous hotspots that otherwise would be impossible to detect until the power cable fails. Use of the distributed temperature sensor allows the operator to run the ROV at maximum power with more confidence and the ability to detect potential hotspots before they can become a problem. Over the longer term this allows operators to run with smaller cables which allows them to operate using a smaller vessel, which can significantly reduce costs.

Sensornet's Halo-DTS is the optimum distributed temperature sensing system that acheives the perfect price-performance ratio for such an application.
