Sensornet appoints Hydro Business Development Manager
Sensornet, provider of the world’s most advanced optical monitoring solutions, has appointed Michael Mondanos as its new Hydro Business Development Manager.
Michael Mondanos will be based in Europe and will be responsible for Sensornet’s dam and environmental monitoring business sector, as well as enhancing relationships with its growing global client base in the hydro industry worldwide.

A member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (formerly IEE) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Michael holds a Masters in Radio Engineering and a PhD in Fibre Optic Instrumentation from Imperial College London. He has worked within both university and industrial organisations in the development of fibre optic components for communications and sensing systems.
Since joining Sensornet in 2004, Michael has been involved in field installations as a senior field engineer and project manager.
Sensornet’s revolutionary Oryx distributed temperature sensing (DTS) unit is set to open up a wide range of new monitoring possibilities in harsh and remote locations, and is particularly suited for many Hydro monitoring applications. The autonomous, low powered system, able to operate from solar or wind power, has a continuous monitoring range of up to 5000m, a sampling resolution of one metre and can operate in environmental temperatures from -40ºC to +65ºC.
Jerry Worsley, Sensornet’s Vice President - Downstream Process, said: “I am delighted to welcome Mike to the industrial monitoring team. Having worked with the company for more than four years, he has in-depth knowledge of our products, services and capabilities. He brings outstanding credentials to Sensornet and will be a vital member of the team.
“The environmental monitoring sector has been growing significantly lately, with fibres installed in, for example, streams, rivers, the sea, snow and ice to detect vital environmental thermal trends to provide a complete picture with the highest sensitivity and real time accuracy. The combination of the Sensornet Oryx DTS and Mike’s practical experience within the Hydro sector is assured to be a winning formula.”
Michael Mondanos added: “Sensornet is committed to being a pioneering leader of monitoring solutions and has an excellent track record in establishing and developing long term relationships with its clients. I look forward to driving the hydro business forward internationally.”

About Sensornet
Launched in 1998, Sensornet provides the world’s most advanced asset monitoring solutions, using real-time distributed temperature and strain measuring systems.
Sensornet provides the complete Digital Monitoring package to the global oil and gas, power, and hydro industries, and offers its own temporary and permanent DTS installation capability. The company is rapidly expanding and has offices based globally in Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
Sensornet works together with partner companies such as HydroResearch to provide industry-leading expertise in the area of dam and environmental monitoring. The main application is seepage monitoring in embankment/tailings dams, where the seasonal temperature is used as a tracer in order to detect and quantify the seepage flow. Together with HydroResearch, Sensornet have carried out over 50 installations to date to provide early warning systems in dams, dykes, and tailing dams. In embankment dams abnormal leakage increase and movements are detected to prevent failures; in concrete dams temperature and strain is monitored to evaluate the integrity of the dam structure.
Sensornet’s award winning technology is supported by a highly qualified and experienced technical, operations and management team, which has provided multimillion dollar turnkey solutions to many of the world’s leading blue-chip companies. From system engineering and design, to data interpretation services and post delivery support agreements, Sensornet is a full solution provider.
