Exhibiting at CIRED 2009

Sensornet will be represented by Bandweaver Technologies at the CIRED 2009 conference 8th – 10th June 2009, in Prague, Czech Republic. CIRED is an annual exhibition focused on HV electrical distribution.

Bandweaver, IPEC, and Powersure jointly collaborated on a technical paper published for this conference, entitled Integrated Condition Monitoring for Subsea Power Cable Systems (reference #1000), Block 3: Tools and Methods for Asset Management of Cables and Overhead Lines (OHL). The paper examines the benefits of combining Distributed Temperature Systems, Dynamic Cable Rating and Partial Discharge monitoring on critical HV cable infrastructure.

We shall be presenting a paper poster at 4 scheduled poster sessions on Thursday 10th June – Poster Tours Session 1, Network Components. The poster sessions are scheduled for 09.00 – 10.30, 11.00 – 12.30, 13.30 – 15.00, 15.30 – 17.00hrs.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Technical Paper Abstract

Integrated Condition Monitoring for Subsea Power Cable Systems (reference #1000)

Authors: R Svoma, PowerSure Technology Ltd, United Kingdom, C Smith, IPEC Ltd, United Kingdom, C Conway, Bandweaver, United Kingdom.

Due to the drive for renewable energy, offshore generation schemes are planned and constructed at an increasing rate. Due to the high cost of repairing subsea cables and the onerous installation and operating conditions, monitoring of the cable can be used as an effective asset management tool.

By having reliable and continuous asset condition monitoring system, preventative maintenance and condition based maintenance can deliver large savings. Finite element modelling and pre-sanction engineering can be used to establish how effective the monitoring can be and also calibrate the models against actual conditions.
