Maximizing pipeline productivity and integrity using distributed fiber optic sensors
Sensornet will be exhibiting at the International Pipeline Conference in Calgary, 29 September - 2 October 2008. Come and see us at booth 1009.
We will also be presenting a paper entitled "Maximizing pipeline productivity and integrity using distributed fiber optic sensors", Paper Number IPC2008-64009.
Due to the dense viscosity of some products and the combination of low environmental temperatures it is becoming increasingly common to heat long lengths of transportation pipeline by means of a heat trace cable. This is commonly called the skin effect.
The DTS system also has the additional benefit of leak detection. Installation of the correct cable configuration enables the DTS to monitor the pipe temperature and also detect the exact location of any leaks down to the nearest 1 metre.
This paper will detail how DTS systems can compliment the heat trace method to maximise pipeline productivity and integrity.
